I Heart Flickr
I know Flickr is already a popular photo site so recommendations are not needed, but I love Flickr so much… I’m going to do it anyways! The more I use Flickr, the more I love it. So where should I begin?
Ah, yes, my Nokia N95. Nokia created Share Online for all Nokia NSeries devices. I know I could just send my pictures via email on my phone to Flickr, but what I dislike about that is the photo ends up resized. When I use Share Online, the original large photo is sent to Flickr unmodified. With my set up, you all see the resized, smaller photo on my photo page. But I have the option of viewing and downloading the larger, original photo. So, in a way, not only am I sharing my photos on Flickr but Flickr is also storing my photos.
And it’s not only about posting pictures, Share Online makes it easy for me to view my contacts’ photos, leave/read comments, and also view random public photos on Flickr. This comes in handy when I’m bored in class
As you all know, I’m a Twitter addict as well. So thank GOODNESS for SnapTweet. I set up an account on SnapTweet so that when I tag a photo on Flickr with the word “tweet” (you choose your own word) – a link to the photo gets tweeted on Twitter! So all I do is get on my Share Online on my N95, which allows you to enter a photo title, description, and tags… so I tag it with the word “tweet”, send it on it’s way and voila! It ends up on my Flickr account, and a few minutes later it gets tweeted. Easy-peasy! (Check out Flickr photos I SnapTweeted)
I’m also a WordPress user and happen to be using Tan Tan Noodles’ Flickr Photo Album Plugin for WordPress. There are a lot of applications and flash slideshows out there for Flickr but this Flickr Photo Album plugin was perfect for me. The set up and editing was easy and the options given are great and easy to implement. Go check out my photo album to see what the heck I’m talking about!
And finally… Flickr now allows video (for Pro users). I know there’s this huge debate about whether or not Flickr should allow videos or what Flickr likes to call “long photos”, but I’m glad they do. I just uploaded some pictures from my cousin’s wedding, and while sharing the event with others through photos are great – there are just some things photos can’t capture. Like hearing the cheers as my cousin and his bride walk down the aisle as husband and wife for the first time. Or hearing a high school friend sing “This Very Moment” by Kci and Jojo while the flower girls walk down the aisle…
You can’t capture all of these things with just photographs. And it isn’t YouTube, Flickr limits the video length to 90 seconds, which is just enough time to share that special moment. No dead air space. Just straight to the good part. And I love that. And now you could see both photos and videos together on the Flickr slideshow (check out Josh’s Wedding slideshow). I love the dynamic content Flickr is allowing. It makes me want to share more, to try to tell a story through photos and short vidoes.
Now I just need to work on my recording skills (I tend to move the N95 a lot LOL), then I’ll be ok
And these, my friends, are some of the biggest reasons why I heart Flickr.

I just joined flickr a few days ago and am LOVING IT! I added a bunch of food photos to my favorites and the photographers contacted me and gave me permission to use them on my blog. They are going to help me produce articles that educate people about various random foods/herbs in foreign countries. I am so excited. You should try and find me on there so I can see what your up to…don’t worry I’m not a stalker lol just love photos! I’m DocNicole there…
That is such a smart way to use Flickr! I never thought of that, and know that will be perfect for you
I added you as a contact
