Help Public School Kids by Funding by Participating in a BlogCatalog/ DonorsChoose Challenge

I should be out listening to music with everybody else and getting ready for our BBQ but I’m here typing this very important blog because it is something that affects us all. Not sure if you know about the crisis that our whole educational system is under but trust me when I say that it is in definite need of improvement.

You would think that being in one of the richest countries, the United States, we’d also have the best students when at least compared to other “poorer” countries. Surprisingly, this is not the case! For example, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, our student are in 24th place in math. That’s behind Canada, Germany, France, Korea as well as smaller, poorer countries like Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Our students’ performance are a direct result of our school system. Students are dropping out at increasing rates and don’t be fooled – it isn’t just inner city kids that are dropping out, it is happening in a majority of public schools out there all across the United States. The reasons for dropping out ranged from hardships at home where students feel that they have to start working sooner… all the way to just plain not being interested anymore! A Time magazine report stated that one million American students drop out of school every year—that’s one every nine seconds!

And what about students who do complete high school and want to further their education? Sadly, many of these students aren’t even prepared for college because of the poor education system that we have.

I can go on and on about this but I think you all pretty much get the point. Our schools need help and we need all the help we could get.
